At St. Peter's Masterclass, you will be led by people who are "masters" in their field and will share
their knowledge on different topics via the Zoom app on the specified date. You can also watch
the recording on YouTube here.
ORIGINALLY PRESENTED ON AUG. 30 & SEPT. 6, 2020
This is a conversation on the problem of suffering in nature and human lives. It is in dialogue format with Rev. Jamison Doehring.
Topics covered are:
How creatures perceive pain
Why pain is a benevolent and necessary part of creation
How pain is minimized in the natural order
What we can do to mitigate pain in ourselves and others
Victoria Campbell is finishing her doctoral thesis at the London School of Theology – Middlesex University through a program affiliated with Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, where she received her Master of Arts in Theology. The topic of her thesis addresses the problem of pain and how to read Genesis in light of new information from the field of Mesopotamian studies.
She is a Deacon in the United Methodist Church and has served as a chaplain in Houston Methodist Hospital. She is a John Wesley Fellow with A Foundation for Theological Education (AFTE). Before her call to ministry, she was trained in the sciences, receiving her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Texas - Austin. Her unusual combination of scientific and theological knowledge as well her clinical pastoral care experience has helped equip her to understand and explain some of the more difficult problems where science and Christianity intersect, particularly the problem of pain.
Victoria lives in Houston, Texas with her husband and three teenage children.
